Buying workbook

Turn the shortlist into a budget, an inspection, and a written offer.

Use the workbook before you enter a showroom or arrange a private sale. Start with an overall purchase limit, request an itemized cash price, and keep financing separate from the vehicle negotiation. Our tools calculate user-entered scenarios locally in your browser. Their defaults are illustrative, not market prices or loan offers. The guides cover inspections, test drives, documents, and practical examples. State tax, title, registration, and inspection requirements differ; verify those requirements with the agencies where you will register the vehicle before you pay.

Treat each step as an opportunity to stop a poor candidate early. You can reject a listing that cannot meet your basic requirements before buying a report or traveling to view it. Keep separate files for different vehicles so that a good inspection or favorable report is never accidentally applied to another VIN. At the final appointment, reconcile the written agreement with your notes and keep complete copies. If an important promise is missing from the documents, ask for the correction while you still have a choice.
